About OMTA

The OMTA was initiated in response to a growing need and request for further education about music therapy techniques and approaches from both music therapists and allied professionals, such as speech therapists, nurses, social workers, teachers, physiotherapists, and recreation therapists. Continuing education workshops provided by the OMTA are also open to the general public and family members who want to support a loved one with a diagnosis such as Autism, Dementia, or an Acquired Brain Injury, for example.

The profession of music therapy is regulated by the Canadian Association for Music Therapists (CAMT). Many music therapists use the act of psychotherapy in their work, and are therefore (in Ontario), also regulated by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. Both of these organizations require continual professional development, as do most allied health professionals. The OMTA offers workshops and courses to facilitate professional development in addition to providing valuable workshops to the general public.
