Saturday, April 13th, 2019   |   9:30am - 12:30pm
Abaton Integrative Medicine
Oakville, ON

In this workshop, Melissa will present some of the findings of a recent research project: “Music improves behaviour and brain connectivity in autism”. This was done in collaboration with the Auditory Brain and Cognitive Development Lab, Université de Montréal, and McGill University. Melissa was the music therapist on the research team that conducted both music interventions and non-music control inventions. There were 51 participants between 6-12 years old who received 8-12 weeks of music (n=26) or non-music intervention (n=25). The study provides information on the effects of music interventions on social communication and functional brain connectivity.
